Building Control
The Building Control Section lies within the Council's Environmental Services Department, the responsibility for which lies with Graham Yarr, Director of Environmental Services.
The objectives of building regulations are:
- to ensure the health, safety, welfare and convenience of people in and about buildings.
- to conserve fuel and power
- to ensure suitable means of access to and throughout buildings, and access to facilities in buildings, for people irrespective of their ability.
The main work of Building Control can be divided into the following areas:
- Ensuring satisfactory standards of building construction
- Securing the Health, Safety, Welfare and convenience of people in and around buildings.
- Furthering conservation of fossil fuels and the reduction of fuel emissions through the energy efficient construction of buildings.
- Dealing with dangerous structures
- Street naming and postal numbering
